Ain't Gonna Work by Laurie Fuhr SOCAN/ASCAP Before it happened, one might just say Things were all moving too fast everyday You wouldn’t put your baby on a crazy carousel yet you’d spin yourself so fast your grey matter melts Now I sit on the couch in the afternoon sun reading books I’d been saving for rainy days Put on my headphones and, go for a run or check on the cookies I made, just for me Chorus: Ain’t gonna work in the coffee shop (c2: cubicle) (c3: factory) no more And I ain’t gonna work in the store I’m gettin by just fine; workin’ from home online And I ain’t gonna run in the race with the rats no more Verse 2: Now that it happened, we can look back Decide if we wanted that herd heart attack More time to make food, that don’t make you die I take my anxiety with ice cream and pie Pre-Chorus 2: Out the park, springtime is here though socially distant we share our good cheer The birds in the trees, the flowers and bees suggest that we do more of what we do best Let’s stay free… of corporate militant greed Chorus Bridge: There ain’t anyway to change where we came from, there’s time to change who we become Chorus Fin

Devil is a Saint by Laurie Fuhr SOCAN/ASCAP What do you do, when the devil is a saint Do what you shouldn’t do, you stay out late After hours bar, lights are soft and drinks refill You speak to me so warmly, that it’s giving me a chill Chorus: You make me sing out loud the sweet refrains, of old romantic songs But from your heart I hear discord Sincerity is gone Verse 2: What do you do, when the devil is a saint Dress nicely as you can, put on your lady paint After hours bar, oh yes another glass of wine Another shot of whisky, well I guess that would be fine Chorus 2: You make my heart skip a beat, trip a beat And then fall down But you’d never help me up again Sincerity is gone Bridge: I hate easy assumptions, it’s you I’d like to know But you dodge my questions, like you don’t want to be known And when you dim down the lights again, the shadows of doubt somehow dissipate, the darkness of the room cannot blind It’s like your job is a stereotype, to which you gleefully subscribe To which you gleefully subscribe Solo Verse 3 What should I do, knowing the devil is a saint Well I could be indignant, and never take the bait Or I could be your willin’ fool, and dream of you all day But if you knew I know your game, would you still play Chorus 3: You say you want a real friend, you’re not just comin’ on But you’re see through as cellophane Sincerity is gone And so I better stay away from you Sincerity is gone Sincerity is gone My sincerity is gone All sincerity is gone Sincerity is gone

Dry Well by Laurie Fuhr SOCAN/ASCAP Drivin' down the dusty road in a 30s model T The year you're in is subject to conditions such as these If you were a farmer, and I a farmer's wife Could you try to draw water from my dry dry well Chorus: Tryna draw water from a dry well, tryna draw water from a dry well Tryna draw water from a dry dry well Do I leave you thirsty baby, oh I can't drink from your pail Tryna draw water from a dry dry well Tin roof would be leaking if the sky could shed a tear Our sad sad situation cannot move a sky so clear If you were a farmhand, and I a daughter fair Could you try to draw water from my dry dry well Chorus Chickens have all died now, and we had to sell the cow But we won't lose the far until they take away the plow If you were a travelin' man, and I so in despair Could I try to draw water from your dry dry well Chorus Outtro Fin

Love in the Digital Age by Laurie Fuhr SOCAN/ASCAP One day they’ll find my bones, wrapped around a cell phone Waiting for word from you, some phosphorescent quartz keeping its screen alight None of us survive, the high-tech volcano, to which we sacrifice Our sanity what price $599 A deal online Chorus: Love in the digital age, is making me insane At the push of a button, you are gone again Is it something you (I) said, or is the wifi dead Love in the digital age, is all the rage, but it makes me want to cry (die) 2 When will we smarten up, stop talking through our stuff After we go blind, we’ll finally see our folly Our voices then shall rise, you’ll hear me when I cry Is this a silence fight, please stop I’ll let you win Oh my fickle love, a single word could save me Is anything real online? IRL in real time Chorus Solo Outtro: One day they’ll find my bones, wrapped around a cell phone Waiting for word from you I really miss you

about

In December 2020, Laurie and Craig were invited by Nick Caron to his studio in northwest Calgary to record a live-off-the-floor, socially-distanced session of original songs. It was a one-take affair, with videos posted to Nick's NCM channel on Youtube and Facebook. Imperfect, but real in that live music way, here are the audio recordings from that session in a convenient digital EP.

about

Bluebird Telegraph Calgary, Alberta

Craig and Laurie met at a cafe jam and bonded over Bob Dylan. Laurie might be more folk, and Craig more gypsy jazz, but the two sounds come together in their duo acoustic project Bluebird Telegraph as they share nostalgic originals and classic covers in a variety of genres. ... more
